Furnace Replacement & Installation

Forced air furnaces are generally quite reliable (with regular maintenance) until they wear out. The last thing you need on a cold winter morning is to wake up to a broken furnace.

Benefits of Furnace Maintenance

Furnace Installation

If you have a bad house furnace is on its last legs you'll want to know the cost for furnace replacement, which is listed here below.

There's a wide range of high efficiency furnaces standard in the industry now. Rebates are often available for new equipment which helps offset furnace replacement costs. We know what's available and will discuss options when you're ready to replace your old basic furnace. We are consistent with quality installation work (for commercial and residential) and will provide you with our work warranty for peace of mind.

You may be wondering what the average price a compatible furnace installation is. It depends on what make and model you choose of course. Including new equipment, materials, and labor, prices can range from approximately $2,900 to $6,400.

Benefits of Furnace Maintenance

Scheduling regular furnace service is the right plan for longevity. It helps reduce the likelihood of frequent repairs. A regularly serviced furnace operates more efficiently, reducing fuel consumption and reducing the defective equipment factor. Also, an efficient furnace (with clean a air filter) provides better indoor air quality and is much quieter.

For these reasons, we recommend you set up a scheduled furnace maintenance program with us. Don’t wait until autumn, when furnace service work keeps us busy. Ask us about correct furnace maintenance so you can rest well knowing it is working at its best. If there is a heat exchanger connected to your heating unit we will be happy to do a visual inspection for you.

If your furnace is an older model, call us to learn how upgrading to a new, high efficiency model can benefit you. Older furnaces are usually a mid-efficiency furnace, sometimes as low as 50%, so upgrading to a new model can make a huge difference in your heating bills. Furnaces sold in British Columbia today must be at least 90% efficient and some go as high as 98.7%.

Should You Service Your Own Furnace?

Older furnaces were once relatively simple to maintain and the average homeowner could clean them, replace the filter and maybe even relight the pilot light. But with newer models, that’s no longer the case. Today’s modern furnace is far more elaborate and require specialized knowledge and tools and should only be serviced by trained, certified technicians to avoid expensive repairs due to a rookie mistake.

Our service vehicles are on the road every day, manned by a licensed heating repair contractor and equipped with the parts needed to service all makes and models. Amana, York, Bryant to Rheem are all Energy Star rated, a small example of a quality manufacturer brand to chose from.

Keeping Central Okanagan Homes Warm

Furnace Installation & Buying Guide

Your home’s furnace is essential to your family’s day-to-day comfort, and is a major investment in your property. It makes sense to research your financing options before making any decisions around a furnace upgrade or furnace installation project. There are a number of factors to consider that can not only improve your home’s comfort, but may also help you save on your home energy costs.

A furnace with a variable speed blower is another option to consider. It refers to the type of motor inside the furnace or air handler. A commutated motor, or ECM, is a motor with an electronic controller. In contrast to most AC motors, ECMs use a magnet rotor and an inverter, which enables them to achieve greater efficiency.

Electric control mechanisms are energy-efficient, require little maintenance, and can cut operating costs. A variable speed furnace will cost more than a traditional furnace at first, but it will pay for itself within 4 to 5 years of installation. Ask about the costs by type when you call.

Another option is the two stage furnace which has two settings when on, low mode and high mode. Typically, the lower setting is used to run the furnace. The equipment will automatically switch to its higher setting if the weather becomes particularly cold.

A two stage furnace reduces temperature fluctuations, allowing you to heat your entire home more evenly and efficiently than single-stage furnaces. However, this more efficient model is more expensive. Two-stage furnaces typically cost several hundred dollars more than single-stage ones.

As a contractor working in this field we'll be happy to offer advice on various makes and models, and can help you choose the best unit for your needs.

The Common Furnace Type

The two most common types of home heating systems include forced air furnace and radiant (or boiler) systems. Forced air systems require ductwork to blow (or force) the heated air. This process distributes heat throughout your home. Radiant heating systems come in several different forms. These systems rely on boilers, which send heated water (steam) through a series of pipes to radiators (or baseboards). The radiators or baseboard provide heat wherever they are installed. Radiant heating systems may also transfer heat to a floor through hot water tubing installed beneath the flooring surface.

For the purpose of this article, we are discussing central heating systems and not boiler systems. Additionally, eco-friendly furnace options include geothermal and solar panel systems. However, this article focuses on the three most popular types of furnace systems: electric, gas, and oil. When you invest in one of these systems you'll probably want one of the Energy Star models for the higher quality it represents.

Electric

Electric models are an excellent choice for areas that do not experience intense winter weather. Generally, electric furnaces have the lowest initial cost upfront installation costs as well. Due to electricity costs, these remain expensive to operate. However, electric furnaces are considered to be fairly energy efficient furnaces. In particular, they remain energy efficient in areas where the temperature stays above freezing. Other benefits of an electric furnace includes size (typically small) and ease of furnace installation. Plus, they don’t require special venting or piping, are easy to maintain and last for up to 15-20 years.

Gas

The most popular type of central gas furnace is the Energy Star rated natural gas furnace which offers an excellent choice for areas that experience harsh winter weather. Gas units have a higher upfront cost than electric models. However, this cost remains offset by lower monthly operating costs. Plus, a natural gas furnace is highly efficient, which means they quickly heat your home. Unlike electric models, central gas furnace models often come with additional costs including installing, replacing, and maintenance requirements. For example, gas units require regularly cleaning ductwork, annual inspections of the main unit and replacement filters.

Oil

Oil furnaces are not as popular as they once were because of the volatility in oil prices. However, they remain a good choice for areas with harsh winter weather. An oil furnace requires a fuel storage tank, which means an additional cost and space consideration. However, monthly operating costs are eliminated because you’re only paying for oil when the storage tank is filled. Typically, oil tanks are filled quarterly, semi-annually or even annually depending on the size of the tank.
